Department of Spatial and Functional Relations
We build the planning of modern Bratislava on solid foundations: high-quality data and an understanding of spatial and functional relationships.
We see a strategic perspective on Bratislava in relation to the metropolitan region as both an opportunity and a challenge. We actively monitor and evaluate relationships within the city, between the city and its surroundings, as well as within the Central European context. The conclusions of our analyses and studies form a professional foundation for the preparation of the new Metropolitan Spatial Plan of Bratislava. Our goal is a Bratislava that functions independently, while also being part of a larger whole.
The department’s role is to:
- Monitor and evaluate spatial development concepts from the European to the regional level and translate them into the planning of the city’s territorial development.
- Coordinate spatial and functional connections within the city with regard to the development of the metropolitan region as a whole.
- Create the conditions for the polycentric development of the city and the balanced use of its territory.
- Process existing data and collect new data from the city and the metropolitan region, transforming them into analytical materials and studies with an emphasis on modern visualisation of outputs.
- Ensure the implementation of conclusions from analytical materials and studies into the Metropolitan Spatial Plan of Bratislava.
